Not even slightly overhyped. It is sooo good and worth our 30 minute drive. The bread is shipped from Philly and it makes all the difference. The Philly sub is the best I’ve ever had, and my husband is from Philly and said it’s the best he’s had outside of Philly. Gotta get it with cheese whiz. I got the chicken cutlet Caesar sandwich and it was to die for. I did not expect it to be as good as it was. The chicken was thinly cut and very tender, not dry or artificial tasting like most places these days. The Caesar sauce was so creamy and flavorful as well. The sandwiches are a little pricey at $16 but definitely worth it. Loved the Philly decor. There isn’t a lot of seating, none inside but a couple small tables outside. It’s definitely a place you order to go. Can’t wait to try more menu items.
After seeing several posts of @ch3fjames, we finally took the plunge and visited Derita Italian Deli on a Friday afternoon as they only serve the Cheesesteak on certain days and thankfully, Friday is one of them. It definitely lived up to our expectations! The beef was juicy, the portions were huge, and the bread was soft! It was delicious! We also tried the DDD aka Derita Deli Deluxe which is one of their Chicken Cutlet Sandwiches. It includes eggplant, prosciutto de Parma, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe, long hot peppers, and balsamic glaze. Phew! Tons of ingredients, I liked it but it lacks seasoning, mainly salt, lol. Overall, we enjoyed both sandwiches and we can’t wait to go back and try the other items on their menu.
Again, word of mouth stop. There was a steady flow of people coming in. We ordered a large sub & split it in 1/2. Theres plenty of meat to fill your gullet. Prices were average for a deli. Service was fast, atmosphere is nice, no sitting inside, 2 tables were outside. Its best to call in your order. The establishment was clean, including the restrooms, friendly staff. Its one of those places that i would visit again !
I feel so blessed to have this awesome new Italian deli just outside our neighborhood! The sandwiches are packed with meat, the toppings are fresh, and that bread... seriously, the freshest. I've never actually had a sandwich in Philly, but I can't imagine it being much better. 😂 The owners - Stephanie and Joe - have customer service down. They are just good people. Capri, the young gal who takes your order, is a sweetheart and could not be more helpful. So happy y'all are in the neighborhood. Love y'all! ❤️
I drove 50 minutes just to try DeRita Italian Deli, and I can confidently say this is hands down the BEST sub place in Jacksonville! I’ve tried so many places, and nothing comes close to the quality of their ingredients, the freshness of their bread, and the incredible flavors. The chicken cutlet sub is honestly the best I’ve ever had, and their Philly cheesesteak is easily the best in Jacksonville! You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and really care about the food they serve. This place is on a completely different level. I would gladly drive 50 minutes just to eat these subs again. Absolutely worth every minute of the drive!
