Was walking down one of the many quaint side streets of downtown St. Augustine and came across this educational experience. The volunteers were so friendly, kind and knowledgeable. Quite informative and inspirational for a former Catholic like myself.
We’re from Spain and we came into the house out of curiosity. Honestly, as a Spaniard, I find the whole topic of the conquest of America really interesting. It’s striking to think that many people living in Spain at that time were just going about their everyday lives in the countryside, not really aware of what was happening overseas. In fact, the style of the house and the tools really remind me of my grandparents’ village in Spain — Villanueva de los Infantes, in Ciudad Real. My own town is nothing like that though haha — I’m from Collado Villalba.
This was an unexpected gem I discovered meandering down a side road, admiring the historic neighborhood. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The 8 sisters remaining still make handmade items for sale in the gift shop. These women were pioneers from France and endured great adversities to fulfill their mission in education. Definitely visit the attic exhibit. This place is a little piece of the area's history and heritage, and there is some cool memorabilia. Donations are appreciated but not required.
What a wonderful experience we had today! Visited with my husband and 4 kids ages 5 and under and it was such a great visit! The ladies at both the front desk and leading the tour were exceptionally welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. The museum is free to visit. The care and attention we received as a family were beyond anything we expected. They showed so much warmth toward our children, taking time to engage with them and even offering encouragement to us as parents. It felt genuinely personal and heartfelt. The tour itself was excellent, informative, inspiring, and presented with great passion. We were especially humbled and moved by the third floor. Our oldest had such reflective questions after and it led to some good discussions on intentional living and sacrifices. This was one of the nicest museum experiences our family has had in a long time. We left feeling encouraged, inspired, and grateful. Highly recommend. Just go,you won't regret it!
Very informative museum of the beginning of life in Florida. Enjoyed learning about the sister's that came over from France. The 100 nativity scenes from around the world is what drew me to visit. However, the rest of it is what I was glad I visited.
