Fantastic museum and one of the most memorable attractions we’ve visited in St. Augustine. This is definitely not for the faint of heart, but it is incredibly well done. The exhibits are detailed, educational, and presented with such care that you can truly feel the atmosphere of the medieval era and the harsh reality of the Inquisition. Walking through the museum leaves a lasting impression. The displays are powerful, the historical explanations are fascinating, and the craftsmanship that went into recreating the devices and scenes is remarkable. It is one thing to read about history in a book, and quite another to stand face to face with the realities people endured centuries ago. If you enjoy history, medieval culture, or simply want to experience something unique and thought-provoking, this museum is absolutely worth visiting. It is both educational and unforgettable. Long after leaving, we were still talking about what we had seen and reflecting on how far society has come. Highly recommended for anyone visiting St. Augustine. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience! Going in, I expected it to be a little cheesy and overly theatrical—more like a haunted house attraction than a museum—but I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually very educational and felt much more realistic than I anticipated. For the price, I thought this was one of the better attractions in St. Augustine. There is so much to look at, and the historical information throughout the exhibit is fascinating. I don’t remember his name, but the gentleman who greeted us and checked us in Sunday evening was especially friendly and welcoming. One thing I really appreciated was that visitors are allowed to touch and interact with many of the replicas (responsibly, of course). It made the experience feel much more immersive. We also enjoyed the add-on microscopic art exhibit at the end. After viewing some of the darker and more gruesome displays, it was nice to end with something lighthearted and unique. Parents should keep in mind that some exhibits contain graphic, PG-13-level depictions of torture and gore. While it may not be suitable for all young children, I appreciated that the museum didn’t shy away from the harsh realities of history. It provides valuable perspective and reminds us how fortunate we are that such practices are no longer part of modern life. My husband and I had a lot of fun exploring the museum together. I’m not sure I would have enjoyed it quite as much by myself (it is a little scary!), but it made for a memorable date and a very interesting experience overall!
This was a great visit and right up our alleys. We didn’t do the ghost hunting - cool concept but I think that would have been too much for us. Loved the self guide walking through each station and room. It wasn’t crowded at all and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
We had a lot of fun at this location. I have to say that I expected a little more from it, but it still had some great exhibits. They say they recommend 18+ but really, the exhibits were not that bad. I would personally say 13+. They are strict with age and not letting any minors (under 18) walk by themselves. They also are not allowed to touch anything. This was frustrating to teens, but understandable. Bring headphones if you plan on using the audio tour They offer.
A really cool and exciting experience! Some exhibits are interactive. The voice over tour that they offer is great. 10/10 recommend.
