Where are the best boutiques in St. Augustine?

Most visitors start on St. George Street, which runs from the City Gate to the Plaza, then move to Aviles Street and Hypolita Street for smaller galleries and jewelry. Uptown San Marco Avenue has antiques and home goods. Across the Bridge of Lions, Anastasia Boulevard and the beach have surf and coastal shops. Locals also shop the Shoppes at Murabella near World Golf Village and the stores around Palencia.

What are good shopping areas in Ponte Vedra and Nocatee?

Sawgrass Village on A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach is the main cluster of boutiques, with resort wear, golf gifts, and home decor near TPC Sawgrass. Nocatee Town Center has neighborhood boutiques and gift shops that serve the families there. The CR 210 corridor and Durbin Park have more chain stores but a few independents mixed in.

What makes a good St. Augustine gift for someone out of town?

Datil pepper sauce and products are the signature local flavor. Beyond that, books on the city's history, prints and paintings by local artists, shell and sea glass jewelry, Spanish and Minorcan themed items, and anything from the local coffee roasters and distillers travel well. Many shops bundle these into boxes you can ship.

Are St. Augustine shops open on Sunday?

Most downtown shops are open Sunday, usually with shorter hours, often noon to 5. Monday is the most common closing day for small shops. Hours stretch later during Nights of Lights from mid-November through January and during busy spring weekends. Call or check the shop's social media the same day, since small stores change hours often.

Do local boutiques do gift wrapping and shipping?

Many do both. Gift wrap is often free or a few dollars, and shipping within the US is usually charged at cost plus a small handling fee. Ask about this in early December, when several downtown and Ponte Vedra shops set cutoff dates for guaranteed holiday delivery.

Is there sales tax on clothing in St. Johns County?

Yes. Florida charges 6 percent state sales tax and St. Johns County adds a local surtax, so most purchases are taxed at 6.5 percent in 2026. Florida runs a back-to-school sales tax holiday most years in late summer that exempts certain clothing and school supplies under set price limits. Dates and limits change each year, so check the Florida Department of Revenue.

Boutiques & Gift Shops in Northeast Florida

Independent boutiques and gift shops are a big part of why people walk around St. Johns County. St. George Street and Aviles Street downtown carry everything from souvenir tees to serious jewelry and local art, the Uptown San Marco stretch has antiques and home goods, and the beach side of the Bridge of Lions has surf and coastal shops. In Ponte Vedra, Sawgrass Village and the A1A corridor lean toward resort wear and golf gifts. Nocatee Town Center and the shops around Julington Creek and Durbin Park serve neighborhood families. Locals shop these stores for teacher gifts at the end of the St. Johns County school year, hostess gifts, Florida-themed presents for visiting relatives, and wedding welcome bags. Tourist season and Nights of Lights drive downtown hours and crowds. Many shops are small, owner-run, and close early on weekdays, so check hours before you drive.

How to choose a boutique & gift shop in Northeast Florida

Match the shop to the gift

Downtown St. Augustine shops are strong on local art, jewelry, books, and Florida history gifts. Ponte Vedra and Sawgrass Village boutiques are the place for resort wear, golf accessories, and higher-end gifts. Beach-side shops near the pier and Vilano carry surf, swim, and casual coastal clothing. Know what you are after before you fight for parking.

Ask what is actually made locally

Plenty of stores sell generic coastal gifts shipped from anywhere. The better ones carry work from St. Augustine artists, datil pepper products, local coffee and honey, and books by area authors. If local matters to you, ask directly. Most owners are proud to tell you.

Check hours and parking before you go

Owner-run shops downtown often open at 10 or 11 and close by 6, with shorter hours on Sunday and Monday. During Nights of Lights and festival weekends, parking near St. George Street is hard and the garage fills. Shops in Nocatee, Julington Creek, and Ponte Vedra have easier parking and slightly later hours.

Understand the return policy

Small shops commonly offer store credit or exchange rather than cash refunds, and sale items are usually final. Ask before buying clothing as a gift. Many will include a gift receipt and let the recipient exchange within 14 to 30 days.

Use them for the hard gifts

Local boutiques are the easiest answer for teacher gifts in May, wedding welcome bags for out-of-town guests, and something Florida-shaped for relatives up north. Several downtown and Ponte Vedra shops will assemble custom gift boxes and ship them, which is useful during the December rush.
