Question 1

How much does a dental cleaning cost in St. Augustine without insurance?

Accepted Answer

A routine adult cleaning with an exam and bitewing X-rays typically costs $150 to $300 self-pay at St. Johns County offices, and many practices advertise a new patient special in the $59 to $129 range. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) for gum disease is billed per quadrant at roughly $200 to $350 each. Ask whether the quoted cleaning price includes the exam and X-rays or just the hygienist's time.

Question 2

How much is a crown in St. Johns County?

Accepted Answer

A porcelain or zirconia crown generally runs $1,100 to $1,800 per tooth at local general dentists in 2026, with same-day milled crowns at the higher end of that range in Ponte Vedra and Nocatee. If the tooth also needs a root canal, add $900 to $1,500 for a molar at an endodontist. Get the price in writing, and ask whether a core buildup is included or billed separately.

Question 3

How much do dental implants cost near St. Augustine?

Accepted Answer

A single implant with abutment and crown typically totals $3,500 to $5,500 in St. Johns County when done by a general dentist or periodontist and oral surgeon working together. Bone grafting or sinus lifts add $400 to $2,500. Full-arch implant solutions advertised locally usually start around $18,000 to $30,000 per arch. Ask who places the implant, who restores it, and whether the quote is all-in.

Question 4

Does Medicare cover dental care in Florida?

Accepted Answer

Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care such as cleanings, fillings, crowns, or dentures. Some Medicare Advantage plans sold in St. Johns County include a dental benefit, often with an annual cap and a limited network, so read the plan details. Many retirees in St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra instead use an office membership plan or a standalone dental policy. Ask the office which Advantage plans they accept.

Question 5

Is fluoride in the water in St. Johns County?

Accepted Answer

St. Johns County Utilities has historically fluoridated its public water supply, as has the City of St. Augustine. Fluoridation decisions have been debated in several Florida communities, so check with your utility for the current status of your specific system. Homes on private wells in Hastings, Elkton, and parts of the western county do not get fluoridated water, and your dentist may recommend fluoride treatments or supplements for children.

Question 6

Where can I get low-cost dental care in St. Johns County?

Accepted Answer

Options include the St. Johns County Health Department dental clinic in St. Augustine, which serves eligible children and adults, federally qualified health centers that bill on a sliding scale, and periodic free clinics organized by local nonprofits and churches. Wildflower Healthcare in St. Augustine has historically offered low-cost care to uninsured residents. Dental hygiene programs at area colleges sometimes offer discounted cleanings.
