Landscapers & Lawn Care in Keystone Heights, FL

How to choose a landscaper & lawn care in Keystone Heights

1. Separate mowing from chemical treatments

Mowing crews do not need a state license, but anyone applying fertilizer or pesticide for pay needs a Florida Department of Agriculture license. Ask who treats the lawn and for their license number. Many homeowners use one company for mowing and a separate licensed company for fertilization and pest control.

2. Ask about St. Augustine grass experience

St. Augustine grass is cut tall, around 3.5 to 4 inches, and scalping it invites weeds and chinch bugs. A crew that treats it like northern turf will ruin it in one summer. Ask what height they cut and how they handle fungus during the rainy season.

3. Check they know your HOA and water rules

Nocatee, Palencia, World Golf Village and most Ponte Vedra neighborhoods have written landscape standards and approved plant lists. St. Johns River Water Management District also limits irrigation days. A local company will know both and keep you out of violation letters.

4. Get a written weekly scope

Weekly service should spell out mowing, edging, string trimming, blowing, and how often beds are weeded and shrubs trimmed. Many disputes come from assumptions about hedge trimming and bed care that were never written down.

5. Confirm insurance

Mowers throw rocks through windows and crews damage irrigation heads and AC lines. Ask for a certificate of liability insurance. Reputable companies will send one without fuss.
