Car Washes & Detailers in St. Johns, FL

How to choose a car wash & detailing in St. Johns

1. Decide between tunnel, hand wash, and mobile

Express tunnels are cheapest and fastest, and the better ones are fine for daily drivers if you add the undercarriage spray. Hand washes and mobile detailers cost more but are gentler on dark paint and ceramic coatings. If your vehicle is new, black, or coated, a touchless or hand wash avoids the swirl marks that brush tunnels leave over time.

2. Look at the undercarriage option

Salt and sand collect in wheel wells and on brake and fuel lines, and that is where rust starts on Florida cars. Choose a wash that includes or offers an undercarriage rinse and use it after every beach trip. Mobile detailers usually cannot do this well in a driveway, so pair them with an occasional tunnel wash.

3. Read the fine print on monthly plans

Unlimited plans in the county run about 20 to 45 dollars per month depending on the tier. They pay off if you wash twice a month or more. Check whether the plan is tied to one vehicle, how to cancel, and whether the cheap tier includes the undercarriage rinse or only soap and a dry.

4. Ask detailers about insurance and products

A detailer using a machine polisher on your paint can burn through clear coat, and a mobile crew in your driveway can damage pavers with harsh chemicals. Ask for proof of liability insurance, what products they use, and how many steps their paint correction involves. Good detailers inspect the paint with a light before quoting.

5. Be realistic about ceramic coatings

Professional ceramic coatings run 600 to 2,000 dollars locally and help with UV, bird droppings, and easier washing, but they are not armor and still need proper washing. Confirm what prep is included, since the coating is only as good as the paint correction under it, and ask about the warranty terms and required maintenance washes.
