Furniture & Home Decor Stores in St. Johns, FL

How to choose a furniture & home decor in St. Johns

1. Buy for the climate

Humidity and salt air are hard on furniture. Look for kiln-dried hardwood frames, performance fabrics that resist mildew, powder-coated aluminum or teak for outdoors, and stainless hardware near the ocean. Ask the salesperson what fails fastest in beach houses. Honest stores will tell you.

2. Measure the doorways and the stairs

A lot of St. Johns County homes have narrow stairwells, tight condo elevators, or second-floor living rooms in elevated beach houses. Measure every doorway and turn before ordering a sectional. Many stores charge a restocking fee if a piece will not fit and has to go back.

3. Ask about lead times and in-stock options

Custom upholstery commonly takes 8 to 16 weeks, and case goods ordered from overseas can take longer. If you are moving into a new build next month, ask what is in the warehouse or on the floor. Many local showrooms sell floor models at a discount.

4. Get delivery and setup in writing

Delivery within the county typically runs 100 to 250 dollars for white-glove service with assembly and packaging removal. Beach addresses across the bridges and third-floor walkups can cost more. Confirm whether the crew will haul away your old piece and what happens if something arrives damaged.

5. Consider consignment and antiques

San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine and several consignment stores around the county turn over quality furniture from downsizing retirees and model homes. Solid pieces often cost half of new and are already acclimated to Florida humidity. Check for wobble, water damage, and signs of termites or powderpost beetles.
