My husband and I came through the line to get a box of groceries because we are on some hard times financially. We have forgotten to grab our boxes to return in previous weeks, so we had a stack of boxes to return. The men at the front were helping my husband unload the boxes from the back seat. They all started laughing at how many boxes we had. One man said "oh man, theyve been storing these boxes all year!" Another man said "looks like they went and picked up the whole neighborhoods boxes!" And then the man that's always wearing the cookie monster shirt said "yeah, he thought he could get some money for them!" Referring to my husband. I think that's an extremely insensitive, privileged and inappropriate thing to say in front of people who are trying to utilize some resources during some hard financial times. I thought we were able to come get free groceries without judgement. Those comments were nothing except judgement. On a lighter note, while in the line we witnessed a woman trying to take handfuls of toys from boxes that were set up over by the tables where you can return and trade out items you don't want or need from your box. One of the women at the table stopped the woman trying to take handfuls and made her give back half. I appreciated watching that, because I wanted to go see if I could grab anything for my best friend and her two babies, but then had our encounter with the men at the front of the line and it made me extremely self conscious. Comments like that are why people are sometimes too scared to utilize food banks in the first place.
Awesome community of individuals that provide an abundance of help to all in need. Truly a BLESSING to our community!! Thank you for all that you do..
Pick up and drop off for families during holidays. Journey Church is helping us get food to families in need. They even gifted the lil kids in the line w a large stuffed animal. They served hot cocoa and cider to the car riders and had a live DJ playing Christmas music. Leaders came down the line and offered to pray w each car. Great community service being offered.
Only been going to this church for a few weeks and they have all been amazingly welcoming.
They are very nice and helpful. A large box of food usually has meats, bread, vegetables both canned and fresh and a some fresh fruit.
