tl;dr - all Randy Briley delivered for $1000 was a demand letter with multiple grammar issues I had to point out. I was referred to Randy for an issue with dishonest sellers when I bought my home. We met in his office to discuss and things seemed well and good. I paid a $1000 retainer shortly afterward. In my time engaging with Randy, he delivered drafts of a demand letter. This was the first disappointment, because I had to repeatedly point out spelling and grammar mistakes. "Corrected" updates via email would still have the same issues, untouched, and I finally called to straighten things out. The second disappointment was his suggestion for next steps. The root of my issue with the sellers involved a plumbing report and he didn't want to scare the plumbing company into "forgetting" everything. He suggested I try to sneakily ask them for information in indirect ways. I made the mistake of agreeing and this is the major reason our engagement lasted as long as it did, because I'm not good at these things and kept procrastinating after my attempts didn't work. The third disappointment is the lack of follow up. I paid the retainer, fixed the demand letter, and set out attempting to glean information from the plumbing company in January of 2023. I made several attempts to get the information between January and October when I emailed Randy with two updates. At no point during that time was I contacted by Randy or his office. I know lawyers don't exist to babysit clients, but the least you can do after taking someone's money for an ongoing arrangement is an email or phone call somewhere in that 10 month span. I changed to Campbell Ford, who immediately saw the sellers dishonesty (regardless of any info the plumbing company might provide) and quickly worked out an acceptable resolution over email. It's a good thing, since the statute of limitations turned out to be quickly approaching.
