How much does computer repair cost in St. Augustine?

Most shops charge a diagnostic fee of about $50 to $90 that is applied to the repair, with labor around $80 to $130 an hour. Common jobs such as virus removal, a Windows reinstall or a laptop screen replacement run $120 to $300 including parts. Data recovery from a failing drive starts near $150 and climbs steeply if the drive has to go to a clean room lab.

Is it worth repairing an old laptop or should I replace it?

A rough rule many local techs use: if the repair costs more than half of a comparable new machine, or the laptop is more than five or six years old, replacing it is usually the better spend. Battery, screen and drive swaps on a three year old laptop are typically worth it. Ask the shop for the repair quote and an honest opinion before approving work.

What does managed IT cost for a small business in St. Johns County?

Managed service providers in Northeast Florida commonly charge $100 to $200 per user per month for monitoring, patching, security tools, backups and help desk, with a minimum that often lands between $800 and $1,500 a month. Hourly break-fix support for offices without a contract runs about $125 to $175 an hour. Compliance work for medical or legal offices costs more.

Can someone come to my house in Nocatee or Ponte Vedra to fix my computer or Wi-Fi?

Yes. Several county providers do on-site residential visits, typically $100 to $175 for the first hour with a one hour minimum, and many will handle Wi-Fi coverage, printer setup, TV streaming devices and smart home gear in the same visit. Expect larger homes in Nocatee and Palencia to need a mesh system or wired access points rather than one router.

How should a St. Augustine business prepare its computers for hurricane season?

Have a backup that is stored off site or in the cloud and that someone has actually restored from, keep a current list of logins and vendor contacts somewhere outside the office, put critical gear on surge protection or a battery backup, and know how staff will work remotely if the building is closed. A provider can set this up in a day or two; do it before June.

Do local shops fix Macs and iPhones too?

Many do Mac repairs and some handle iPhone and iPad screens and batteries, but Apple parts and pairing can limit what an independent shop can do. Ask whether they use Apple parts or aftermarket ones and what that means for the warranty. For newer devices still under AppleCare, the Apple Store in Jacksonville may be the better first stop.

IT & Computer Services in Jacksonville & Northeast Florida, FL

IT & Computer Services in Northeast Florida

St. Johns County has a lot of small businesses and a lot of people working from home in Nocatee, Ponte Vedra, Julington Creek and World Golf Village, which is why IT help here splits into two different jobs. One is the computer repair shop that fixes a cracked laptop screen, recovers photos from a dead drive or removes malware, usually the same week. The other is the managed IT provider that keeps a dental office, law firm or builder running with backups, security and support on a monthly contract. Salt air near the beaches is hard on electronics, lightning season from June through September takes out routers and modems, and hurricane prep means having a backup that lives somewhere other than the office. Many shops are one or two people, so response time matters as much as price.

How to choose a it & computer repair in Northeast Florida

Decide whether you need a repair or a relationship

A one-time fix for a slow PC or a broken screen is a repair shop job with a flat quote. If your business has five or more computers, a server or a point of sale system, you want a managed provider with a monthly plan, response time commitments and a backup you can test.

Ask what happens to your data

Any shop handling your drive should explain how data is protected during repair and what is wiped afterward. For businesses, ask where backups are stored, how often they run, and when the provider last restored a file from one. A backup nobody has tested is a guess.

Get the diagnostic fee and turnaround in writing

Most local shops charge a diagnostic fee that is credited toward the repair, and parts for older laptops may take several days to arrive. Confirm the fee, the estimated days, and whether you approve any repair over a certain dollar amount before they start.

Check for real security basics

A business provider in 2026 should be setting up multi-factor authentication, patching, endpoint protection and email filtering as standard, not as upsells. If they cannot explain in plain words how they would handle a ransomware event at your office, keep looking.

Confirm on-site coverage for your part of the county

A provider based in Jacksonville may charge travel time to St. Augustine Beach or Hastings. Providers along CR 210 and in Nocatee cover the north county quickly; downtown and the island are better served from St. Augustine. Ask what the on-site minimum is.
